How to Take Care of Your Electric Motorcycle Motor

The motor is basically the soul of electric motorcycle. If I treat it right, it'll run for years without giving me any headaches. It's way simpler than taking care of a gas engine — no oil, no filters, no spark plugs. Just a few easy habits I stick to on electric motorcycle.

Keep it clean, but don't go crazy with water. Dirt and mud trap heat, and heat is my electric motorcycle's worst enemy. After a dirty ride, I just wipe the motor area with a damp rag. If there's stuck-on grime, I use a soft brush. But I never blast it with a pressure washer — that heavy water pressure can mess up the seals, and that's a disaster for any electric motorcycle.

Use my ears. A healthy motor on electric motorcycle sounds smooth and quiet. If I start hearing grinding, clicking, or any rough noise, I don't ignore it. That's when I take my electric motorcycle to a pro and get it checked out.

 Check the electrical connections every couple months. Vibration loosens bolts and cables over time, so I make sure the main power cables going into the motor are tight and free of rust or corrosion. A loose connection makes the motor overwork and overheat — not worth the risk on an electric motorcycle.

Stay out of deep water. My electric motorcycle is tough, but it's not a submarine. Riding through flooded roads can push water into the motor windings, and that usually means a very expensive repair bill I'd rather avoid.

Let it cool down before I push it hard again. After a long ride on my electric motorcycle at highway speeds, I give it five or ten minutes before I start climbing steep hills or doing aggressive starts. Patience saves money.

Stick with these simple habits, and my electric motorcycle just keeps pulling me down the road for thousands of trouble-free miles.
